Dutch practice Engelarchitecten envisioned and implemented a modern residence in the town of Aalsmeer, the Netherlands. Villa Nieuw Oosteinde was constructed while obeying strict governmental rules; more to the point, the residence had to resemble a small tower, like a gatekeeper's house. According to the architects, the solution was a house “with a building system that has its roots in industrial and commercial buildings. The villa is made from prefabricated concrete element. This system is widely used for industrial and commercial buildings, but this is one of the first times it has been used for a villa. One of the big advantages is the cost and the building speed, without having to make concession in build quality and spatial experience“. Prefabricated concrete, wood and glass were the materials chosen for the exterior. Structured on two levels and built with functionality in mind, the residence offers a high living standard, making it perfect for a family home.
